Okay, Kevin – we’ll try Ramp

Oh, hi!  Here’s what’s happening today at the intersection of media, law and culture.

  • Does Indiana University really need a task force to debate the independence of the student paper?  Feels like the oldest deflective PR tactic in the book. (Indy Star)

  • B2B SaaS company Ramp launched the coolest activation stunt in recent NYC memory featuring Brian Baumgartner, who played Kevin on The Office, tallying expense reports and juggling receipts in a glass “office” via livestream. Y’all, this was genius. (It was also wildly successful, racking up 112 **million** views across platforms.)  Rachel Karten chats with Ramp’s head of creative experimentation and social media lead over at Link In Bio.

  • Sora2 freaks me – and apparently SAG-AFTRA – out. But OpenAI says it will now prohibit users from using real people’s likenesses without their explicit consent through an opt-in process.  Cool, cool, everything’s fine. (NBC News)

  • Cheers and snaps for the SF Chronicle copy editor who wrote this headline about the continuing fallout over Katie Porter’s recent media gaffe(s). (SF Chronicle)

Ciao for now, media aficionados….
